Welcome to Bev’s Homemade Ice Cream & Cafe!
Welcome to the Bev’s Homemade Story Page
Our Story
Bev's Homemade Ice Cream & Café has been a Richmond staple serving the highest quality New England-style ice cream, sweets, and coffee since 1998. We serve classic flavors such as Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry, and our own creations like Espresso Oreo and other weekly specials. There's something for everyone here, including a dairy-free sorbet and weekly vegan flavor, homemade baked goods, and coffee creations. We are one of the most established, recognized ice cream shops in Richmond, and we are proud to serve generations. We sell our homemade ice cream in-store and wholesale to other small businesses in the greater-Richmond area. Now available are our rentable ice cream carts, where we bring the joy of ice cream to you! With our loyal following, we have catered to families for over two decades, including those who now have their own children or grandchildren to bring back to us. It is truly our pride and joy to serve you.
Beverly, our founder, began her career in the ice cream industry by attending the Culinary Institute of America, creating a small chain of ice cream shops in Lenox, MA, and CT. She followed one of her children to Virginia, seeing as we had few homemade, New England-style ice cream shops. There were several Bev’s shops throughout Greater Richmond, which she later closed to have a sole standing store. Bev dedicated her attention and passion into her beloved West Cary Street shop, which can be found right across from the historical Byrd Movie Theater on the strip of mom & pop stores nick-named “Carytown”.
As of December 2021, Beverly has retired, and allowed one of her employees to succeed her. Erin, and her brother Connor have taken over, vowing to continue the recipes, culture, and homemade charm of Bev’s. Erin worked at Bev’s for several years, through COVID, helping adapt business to push through the unprecedented pandemic. We have remodeled the interior of the store and modernized the menu board.
We are thankful for the love and support of our loyal family and friends throughout the years, and are grateful to continue being successful through trying times. We thank you for your endless support and generosity for our small, woman-owned and operated business!
